Malaysia Adds 21 New International Flight Routes for 2026

These Malaysia new flight routes 2026 additions span 21 international connections across nine domestic airports ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026, according to Tourism Minister Tiong King Sing — 16 scheduled routes plus 5 charter services, adding up to 81 direct weekly flights and roughly 13,936 extra seats a week into the country. Most of the scheduled routes launched in December 2025, with the rest starting in January 2026.

Where the Malaysia New Flight Routes 2026 Land

Nine Malaysian airports are picking up new routes: Kuala Lumpur, Subang, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Kuching, Ipoh, and Langkawi. The new routes connect to 17 cities across 8 countries, with China taking the largest share — 8 Chinese cities are newly connected, split across 7 scheduled and 3 charter flights — alongside new links to Osaka, Busan, Taichung, Jakarta, Medan, Cebu, Singapore, Tashkent, and Colombo.

Which Airlines Are Flying Them

Ten airlines are operating the new routes in total. Malaysian carriers include Batik Air (8 scheduled plus 1 charter route), AirAsia (1 scheduled plus 1 charter), and Firefly (1 scheduled). On the Chinese side, Loong Air, Shandong Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, and Juneyao Air are splitting 5 scheduled and 3 charter routes between them, while South Korea’s T’way Air adds a further scheduled connection. “These routes are operated by 10 airlines, linking Malaysia with destinations across Asean, East Asia, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka,” Tiong said.

What This Means for Travelers

These Malaysia new flight routes 2026 generally mean more competitive airfares and easier connections into Malaysia’s secondary cities, not just Kuala Lumpur. If you’re planning a Borneo trip, our guide to flying into Borneo is worth checking against the new Kota Kinabalu and Kuching connections, and if Ipoh or Langkawi are on your list, watch for new charter capacity that can bring seasonal fare drops.
